ErvoCom has implemented a modern Dual-Mode Train Radio System for the Schneebergbahn in Austria, marking ErvoCom’s first project in Europe based on 4G MCX technology. Following the successful implementation of initial MCX projects in Australia, this project represents another important milestone in the transition towards the next generation of railway communications. MCX is a key technological component of the future FRMCS standard.
The historic cog railway, operated by Niederösterreich Bahnen, is equipped with a future-proof Dual-Mode system that enables communication both via the existing DMR radio network and via MCX over the 4G mobile network. This allows the existing radio infrastructure to remain in operation while enabling a smooth and gradual migration towards modern broadband communication technologies.
In addition to the Train Radio System, ErvoCom also supplies the intercom units for communication with passengers. The Schneebergbahn therefore benefits from an integrated communication solution that combines proven radio technology with the capabilities of modern IP-based broadband communications.
